Mycological Dream
During the final semester of my time at JMU, our sixth studio, all the students were asked to come up with a thesis. My thesis, “Mycological Dream” focused on developing a living, biological structure that can be used for in-habitation as well as a source of building/ design materials. How can the collaboration of technology, design, and biology be used to grow organism like structures through the insertion of architectural interventions throughout a site? How can the growth be harvested to create a new space while also fueling other projects elsewhere? The motivation for this thesis is an attempt to bridge the gap between machine and biology by bringing them together in an almost symbiotic way. This project specifically focuses on the development, growth, and end result of these structures over the course of time. The following pictures from my thesis book show the different aspects of my project through the steps I took towards its development.
